Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer previously helped the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial World Series after the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Behind three runs to one, the star outfielder smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.

"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an amazing experience."

Springer has now connected for 23 post-season home runs, ranking him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine another player anywhere that I'd choose in that situation besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, are still the one club never to appear in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their performance in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he continued.

Toronto won the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
