Iconic Singer Barry Manilow Will Have an Operation for Lung Cancer.

The singer has disclosed that he received a diagnosis with a cancerous growth in his lung and will undergo an operation.

Spot Found in Initial Phase

The 82-year-old singer, famous for his series of upbeat chart-toppers from "I Write the Songs" established him as one of pop music’s enduringly popular showmen, will have surgery to extract a portion of his lung in an effort to combat the disease, which is in its early stages.

ā€œAs many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

ā€œEven though I was over the bronchitis and returned to the spotlight in Las Vegas, my attentive medical team insisted on an MRI just to be certain that everything was OK.

ā€œThe MRI discovered a malignant lesion on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s sheer fortune (and a skilled doctor) that it was caught so early.ā€

Concert Delays

He has postponed a number of upcoming live performances, but indicated he would be returning to perform by Valentine’s Day for his longstanding concert series at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino.

He added: ā€œThe doctors do not believe it has metastasized and I’m taking tests to verify their assessment. So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.

ā€œI’m looking forward to until I come back to my home away from home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our special weekend performances.ā€

Professional and Personal Journey

Manilow is now in the 16th year of a concert series on the Las Vegas Strip. The singer has spent decades in the spotlight and came out as gay in 2017, after wedding his manager and long-term partner in secret in 2014.

The couple were in a clandestine relationship for more than 35 years. In 2023, Manilow discussed how vital Kief had been to him during his explosion in popularity in the 1970s.

ā€œDuring my rapid rise to fame, it was just hectic. And, you know, returning to an vacant room, you can find yourself in a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re alone repeatedly,ā€ he said.

ā€œBut I found my partner right around when it was exploding. And I didn’t have to go back to those empty hotel rooms. I had a person to be vulnerable with or to enjoy success with.

ā€œI desire that newcomers today don’t have to go back to those suites by themselves, because you can make poor choices. I never did. But it was quite isolating until I met Garry. And then it was a shared adventure.ā€
