It: Welcome to Derry Releases Next Early on the Streaming Platform

Excitement is building for the chilling show the Derry series, that's been garnering praise and incorporating themes from other Stephen King works. Just one day after launch, the network has revealed that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, scheduled ideally for Halloween.

Early Release Details

Beginning on the last day of October at midnight PT, the second episode of the Derry prequel will launch on HBO's online platform, before its traditional TV airing. Subsequent episodes of the eight-episode season will be released on Sunday nights on HBO and HBO Max, leading up to the concluding chapter on the 14th of December.

Series Overview

Taking place within Stephen King’s It universe, Welcome to Derry borrows elements from the original story while expanding on the setting brought to life by director Andy Muschietti in the two It films. It Chapter One centered on adolescents battling terrifying threats, making it appropriate that the series upholds that legacy. Yet, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry demonstrates it set out to increase the tension, delivering heightened horror than the movies and establishing a brutal tone for the rest of the season.

Taking place in the 1960s, this show features a fresh cast of parents and youngsters living in a seemingly idyllic town masking a sinister core. This place operates on a cruel, recurring cycle—defined by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a terrifying being returns each 27-year cycle. Although It: Welcome to Derry might appear like it strays too near to the films on the surface, what sets apart the digital program is its dual perspective—unfolding through the viewpoints of young and old at the same time. Younger characters remain highly exposed to the entity's fear, but the adults also face dealing with their own nightmares arising from the town's ingrained prejudice and lurking supernatural forces.
