It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miamiâs iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
âThe swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,â stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
âUnless you count eating six or seven apples per day,â she went on. âI hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.â
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the regionâs Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming âsix-sevenâ â deriving from a musical verse â often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named âsix-sevenâ its 2025 word of the year.
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge âaway from grills and cookwareâ, according to the ceremony's official statement.
âThis swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,â said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
âIt embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.â
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
